![]() Of the expansions in this game, each released with a free patch introducing many free features, most of which often get confused for being hidden behind a paywall of the expansion itself, when it is anything but the case. The game remains one of the most highly acclaimed entries to the Paradox Interactive catalog and genre as a whole. The credits list boasts a slew of professionals who worked on the project over the course of its creation and post-release development. It's genre exists in quite a niche market with nowhere near the revenue generation of a triple A production IP of its quality or size, especially so in 2012 upon its release. The game remains (despite its age) completely playable, and in fact runs well on far less than modern optimal hardware. Thus, the IP was expanded upon over the course of roughly 7 years. Not counting the development of the initial base game (starting from the release date) the game was in development from Feb, 12th, 2012 until its last expansion release on Nov, 13th, 2018. This is equivalent to about 18 months of the expansion subscription to keep the DLC permanently. At current, with the base game being free to play, and DLC continuously going on sale during each major sale, the full game (frivolous DLC aside) costs roughly $92 for the entire list of the 15 major expansions. I don't understand people who knock this game for its DLC.
